Model of the Light Frigate "Kronshlot"
This frigate was built in France by well known shipwright B. Pangalo
and arrived in St. Petersburg shortly after where its guns were
mounted.
In almost all ways the Kronshlot surpassed many of its contemporaries
and it participated in all battle campaigns of the Northern War
and was used as Peter the Great’s private transport vessel. The
ship was in service in the Russian fleet for more than 30 years.
The model of the KRONSHLOT frigate was built in 2004-2005 by master
model ship builder Àlexey Baranov
and earned its builder the title of the Champion of Russia.
Remaining plans, drawings, letters and documents belonging to Peter
the Great and other state officials as well as ship’s logs were
used in the construction of this exquisite model which was built
from Pear, Walnut, Ebony, Cherry and other exotic woods. The rigging
was hand made using special waxes from traditional recipes and metal
accessories were made from brass.
