Model of sailing vessel "Krusenstern"
This four masted bark was constructed in 1926 in a shipyard in Weser-Munde
(Germany) and was initially named "Padua".
The Soviet Union aquired the vessel and in January 1946 it was
subsequently renamed in honour of an outstanding Russian seafarer
and researcher: I.F.Krusenstern. It is used as a research vessel
and has the capacity to travel very long distances and spend long
periods of time at sea. As such the Krusenstern has made some round
the world expeditions.
Between 2002-2005 the vessel was completely reconstructed with additional
research equipment being installed.
This model was constructed in 2005 under the order of the Museum
of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad. It was built by master model
ship builder Alexei Baranov
using Pear. Other components are made from steel, brass, copper,
silver and plastic.
